Yibin University is located in Yibin City, "the First City on the Yangtze River", a renowned historical and cultural city in China.

On June 8, 2022, President Xi Jinping visited Yibin University in person, where he gained a deep understanding of the school’s efforts in talent cultivation and graduate employment. He also gave instructions regarding the employment and development of graduates.

The university comprises two campuses, Jiangbei and Lingang, spanning a total area of 2,260 mu. It houses 14 colleges and 2 faculties, enrolling students from 28 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities across China, as well as international students primarily from South and Southeast Asia. The total full-time enrollment stands at approximately 26,000 students.

Yibin University boasts a highly qualified faculty team, with over 1,800 staff members. Among them, 24 are recognized as Provincial Academic and Technical Leaders or Reserve Candidates, Outstanding Experts with Significant Contributions, and Provincial Teaching Masters. The university has also engaged 95 distinguished external experts and scholars, including Nobel Laureates, academicians from China and abroad, and recipients of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars.

It offers 57 undergraduate programs, spanning ten academic disciplines: arts, science, engineering, management, economics, law, education, fine arts, agriculture, and medicine.The university focuses on addressing the needs of local development, vigorously promotes the interdisciplinary integration of disciplines and majors, and prioritizes the construction of 11 "core +" professional clusters, including Electronic Information and Digital Economy. It currently boasts 2 national-level, 9 provincial-level first-class undergraduate majors, 50 national and provincial curriculum-related projects, while undertaking over 160 teaching research and reform projects at or above the provincial and ministerial levels. The university has established 5 provincial-level off-campus practice teaching bases and 3 provincial-level experimental teaching demonstration centers, and has been selected as a university participating in the Virtual Simulation Teaching Innovation Laboratory Program for Institutions of Higher Education. Over the past five years, students have won 3,407 awards in various national and provincial competitions and secured 1,055 national and provincial-level projects under the College Students' Innovation and Entrepreneurship Training Program. The quality of cultivating high-quality applied talents has been effectively demonstrated, with the graduate employment rate remaining above 92% for consecutive years, ranking among the top universities in Sichuan Province. It has been awarded the title of "Outstanding Unit in Graduate Employment Work among Sichuan Provincial Universities in 2023".

Committed to deepening its internationalization strategy, Yibin University actively promotes international collaboration and exchanges. It is the only university in Sichuan Province to be selected for both the "China-Africa Hundred Universities Cooperation Program" and the "China-Africa University Alliance." In alignment with the "Belt and Road" Education Initiative, the university founded the South Asia-Southeast Asia Research Institute and established its Luang Namtha Campus in Laos, which commenced enrollment in 2024.

To foster global engagement, the university has developed robust cooperative frameworks with over 30 universities and educational institutions across more than 10 countries, including America, Britain, Germany, Italy, Singapore, and Russia. These partnerships encompass faculty, and student exchanges, joint training programs, and collaborative research initiatives. International learning platforms, such as the "World Top University Visiting Program" and "International Organization Preparatory Camp," have enabled over 500 students to pursue overseas studies, enhancing their global competence and broadening their academic horizons.

The university has recruited over 40 international talents and sponsored more than 300 faculty members for overseas exchange and training. It currently offers four undergraduate programs for international students: International Economics and Trade, Agronomy, Chinese Language Education, and Computer Science and Technology. Presently, over 300 international students from 21 countries, including Laos, Russia, Pakistan, and Morocco, etc. are enrolled on campus, reflecting the continuous advancement of its internationalization.
